And The Glory of The Lord

This week I keep thinking of the scripture from Isaiah that says the whole earth is full of the Lord’s glory. Sometimes you really see it, but it is always there, even when our lives look messy or boring or dark or dreary. We have all of the above, pretty much every day. Glorious and pitiful, sublime and subpar, we are surrounded by the Lord’s glory. Our challenge is to delight in what is before us and see it as all part of the Lord’s glory. And to believe that his grace will be sufficient to meet every need.

Best parts:

-Hanging out in the temple. I get to be the veil coordinator while the real veil coordinator is taking a leave of absence. It’s a job where you mostly witness the glory of the Lord. You do a few things, but mostly you just smile and enjoy the people and the presence of the Lord.

-My meeting with my stake communication council. We get to do such fun things for our callings! And I get to work with really, really great people.

-Hanging out with my Eve and my Griffin. Sometimes it is when they are delightful and sometimes it is when they are really, really struggling. Eleven is a tricky age, especially for girls. Eleven is sometimes tricky for the people around eleven year old boys. You can imagine the struggle.

-Being with my true love. He is taking a few days off of work for a trip to Utah. He is taking us skiing and to Dick’s house to watch the Super Bowl. We had a fun and adventurous date to a brand new restaurant last night. Afterwards we stopped by the Cathedral of the Madeline on our walk back home and participated for a very few minutes in a Spanish language mass. He also bought me pretty new skis for Valentine’s Day. Fun!

Worst parts:

-NOT getting to see Mariah, Mac and my grandchildren. We overlapped our time here by just over 24 hours and we decided to be cautious and try NOT to get sick every time we get together. It was heartbreaking for me! We are hoping Eliza and Evan’s family can be well enough to see them in person before we go back to Kansas.

-Eve developing severe back pain when we were skiing and being unable to go on. She is fine now.

This week our power went out as it was time to get ready for school one day. I unhooked the garage door so I could get the car out and take the kids to Chick-Fil-A for breakfast before school. This is the sight that greeted us. Just glorious! It turned out to be an excellent day.

Our youth are having a pine car derby, including any kid who wants to make one. Eve wanted a purple Eve mobile, but we only had red and blue spray paint. This is in process, trying to make it happen.

Griffin was trying to make his car into a narwhal with the black and white old spray paints we had. The horn was kind of awesome but got broken off. He is wondering if he is okay with just doing a manatee or something.

Griff was ready for skiing before anyone else. 

It snowed giant fluffy flakes pretty much the whole day at Brighton. It made for beautiful, soft skiing, but it also made for tight wet snowpack on the bottom of boots that made it really difficult to get boots bound to skis. It ended up being a THREE person job.

This is not your average Jimmy John’s. SLC has some glorious things and some weird things.
