Oh Refresh Us

This week started out warm and wonderful and ended up snowy and strenuous. There was a snowstorm on Wednesday that canceled school for that day and the rest of the week, and then Alan worked the weekend. 

Here are the favorite parts:

1. Cleaning the temple on Monday. First of all, what a great stealthy way to access the Lord's house! Love it. My two favorite parts of cleaning the temple were 1) dusting garbage cans on the first floor. I was required to go find all the garbage cans, which meant I got to check out every single room. That was fun! Also they all match. Every single one.  And 2) I cleaned the glass on the front doors. When you are inside the temple with the morning light coming in the east doors, you can see all of the (very few) spots that need to be cleaned. But when you are outside the temple, you can't see anything but glass and reflections and light. You have to rely on your memory of what you learned inside the temple. I thought that was symbolic and wonderful.

Griffin came up with this fun hand position. We think. He could be throwing gang signs or copying something from an anime series and I just don't know.

We ordered pizza for the missionaries and had a zoom message. We ate homemade pizza.

On Tuesday I went grocery shopping, as I usually do, forgetting a major storm was headed our way. I was astounded how many people were there, but I had fun talking to Linda Johntz in line.

2. Playing with my babies. We watched two very old movies, "Die Laughing", which I remember watching on New Years Eve 1980 in Boulder City, and "Groundhog Day" because it was, well...Groundhog Day (and Joel's birthday!) this week. It wears really well. Even better than I remembered from 1993. We also did some sledding, organizing, nail painting, and opened a spending account for Griffin. Now we need to do it for Eve. I'll post some fun videos of them doing tricks at the end.

Willa taught me how to achieve a fish eye lens effect on an iPhone. I recommend doing it on very cute people, not yourself.

Griffin's basketball and football season are almost over. It is so hard getting there. My guess is that this will be the last time he does either of those sports. But maybe he will surprise me.

3. Organizing. I told my friend Carrie that organizing is my jam, and she let me come help straighten up her storage room. I also did Eve's closet. If I ever had a business, I think it would be an organizing service. I looked around at some that are in our area. The best one near me is called Neatly Done and is actually hiring part time organizers right now. That sounded kind of fun, but I hesitate to give people my time on their terms. It's my whole problem with aqua aerobics right now. Anyway, I have been brainstorming ideas if I ever DID start an organizing business, or even just an Instagram account of things I have organized that please me. Want to help? Some names I've thought of are: A Closet Organizer, In the Closet with Heather, or Skeletons to Rest. What are some other ideas? None of mine are quite right.

Both of these snow pants, which I had been saving for when my adult daughters are home wanting to play in the snow, are now gone in exchange for a pair of snow pants that might fit Eve thanks to the Buy Nothing Prairie Village Facebook group.

 4. Dating my husband. We broke down and ate out IN AN ACTUAL RESTAURANT this week. We went to Zocalo, which we only do a couple of times a year, and in which I just stop being a vegan and enjoy the Mexico City Trio enchiladas. They are amazing! And we finally watched The Matrix, and now understand a whole lot of cultural references from the last 22 years.

Here are the challenges:

It is hard to keep growing 9 year olds properly fed. And this leads to a whole lot of emotional fall-out and drama with these particular 9 year olds. 

We basically went back to homeschool life for 5 days. Just me and them. I adore them and they are so much fun, but it is so much just me and them!

I'm fasting so I can't even remember anything else. It's probably all good though, right?! ;)
