Where Are You Christmas?

This is the smallest Christmas we have had since 2000, the year Willa was a baby. This year she came home and gave us 3 kids at home again. We had twins plus Willa. It was so great to see her and hug her!

Here is what I found when I looked for what Christmas looked like at our house:

1. Lights! We saw several excellent light displays. These ones were in PV. Brookside was amazing. Candy Cane Lane still brings in a crowd. And there was a fun drive through light show in Swope Park.

Also, you know I'm always on the lookout for a good sunrise. Griff found this one with me. There was a moonset at the same time just behind me.

2. Words! I was published in three newspapers this week. Here are two of the articles I wrote.

3. Tamales! Mexican food always makes everything better, doesn't it?! I made four kinds of tamales, and three of the kinds were vegan. None of them had dairy, and they were all delicious.

4. Gifts and fun!

Mariah gave me a fun assortment of reading glasses to accommodate my aging eyes.

Alan's favorite gift was a new black basketball.

Eve got a bunch of excellent clothes (thank you Eliza!) and a realistic baby doll. Also the glasses she found in her stocking were very, very good.

Griff REALLY liked the skateboard (coolest gift for sure, Mac and Mariah!).

Willa took the Christmas day pictures because my phone was AWOL, but her favorites were some Birkinstocks and gold earrings.

It was unseasonably warm, so we got to do a lot of outdoor things. Two bike/hikes in Swope park, and a peaceful dark walk through our neighborhood on Christmas Eve were memorable. I'll put a video from the walk at the end.

Hands down best thing: video chat with all our kids! Mariah, Buddy and Evan have COVID--oh no!

A family photo Griff didn't want to be in. Although that orange lump at the bottom may be his head in a stocking cap. Or not. Probably Alan is looking at him.

Just for reference, this is the last time it was Willa and the twins at home for Christmas. A bonny baby Jesus, if I do say so myself.

Here is our walk on Christmas Eve:

P.S. Today is the first day someone asked me what I did and I said I was a writer. That was fun.

  1. I had a funny issue with your picture of Allen‘s favourite gift. The thing in the picture was definitely not a black basketball. It looked like a skateboard. Then, later, I learned that the skateboard belongs to Griffin. Congratulations on your newspaper articles. What a lot of fun! Also, saying you’re a writer is a fun fun thing. The Christmas lights on houses were delightful. Also your sunrise. I hope The Killers get over there Covid without long-term problems.
