Stars Were Gleaming

This week felt a little rough. I feel like I'm being properly prepared for the talk I am giving on Sunday. Last week I totally felt the light guiding me. This week I am feeling the trudge through the desert dark and far. I keep remembering December is hard. Depression runs in my family, and it especially rears its head when light in the northern hemisphere is scant. Add that to a long to-do list, hormone fluctuations, a sprained ankle and not quite enough sleep and it explains fairly well what is a repeating lesson for me about this time of year. And Griff and Eve are echoing the refrain!

And yet, as I go back through the things that were fun enough to take pictures of, I am reminded that the stars were there all along. I'm so glad I have this blog to make me turn back and look for them.

Eve still fits in the dryer. She is 9 and it is a big dryer.

We had so much fun bringing friends to the Ice Terrace and the Giving Machines!

Girls' party!  Without me. Dang!

Yesterday was a doozy. We had way too many things on the calendar but everything turned out fine. Great even.

Griff playing in a football game for the first time! His look reminds me of a LHS Alan.

Ward parties don't have to have professional opera singers, but ours does--just for fun. We found out we had SO MUCH musical talent move into our ward during the pandemic! And a bunch of people from Swope Parkway United Christian church came too! Please pray for Reverend Rodney Williams. His wife died this week. Reverend Williams and his 15 year old daughter will have Christmas without her this year.

Also, live nativities rarely have live camels or your triplet friends featured as wise men and angels, but this one did. It was fun too!

Griff and Eve humored us and tried some new foods for the first time. We gave them PBJs afterwards and watched A Christmas Story with them for the first time. They loved the movie!

Eve finds so many fun things!

I also

-scheduled a massage with Charity

-visited a new mom whose first month as a mom is making the hardest first months I have seen look like a walk in the park

-had an awesome podcast club

-had a dear friend offer to take over for me tomorrow when I have my procedure.

Remembering these things helps me have some faith that things will work out even though we are so much of a mess we couldn't even handle the second hour of church today.

Please remember to pray for Dr. Yetter.

  1. Ok. It’s Tuesday. I hope your procedure went alright. Hang in there! Maybe a sun replacement lamp could help you through dark winters. I love seeing how your kids do stuff and like it. The Christmas lights and ice skating and picture of you with Alan make me so happy. I prayed for the pastor and his daughter. May peace exist alongside of grief.

  2. Eve in the dryer made my day. It's also a funny way to start your blog post. We tie our children up at times and you put them in the dryer. See? We're not so different!

I'm struggling too. I even had an outburst the other day and one near outburst at school. (I pictured myself so clearly saying something terrible to a student that I wondered later if I had really done it!) I agree about the sun. And sleep.

I loved the picture of Griffin playing football too! How wonderful to see a tiny Alan doing fun athletic things. You're so good about accounting for all the things. I need to keep a better journal so that I can do a better accounting. Maybe it will help me through this winter.
