God Who Made Thee Mighty, Make Thee Mightier Still

From "Pomp and Circumstance":

Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free,
How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee?
Wider still and wider shall thy bounds be set;
God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet,
God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet.

I forgot to record Wyatt's socially distant high school graduation, which happened the night before we left for Utah. A bunch of disappointed parents rented a drive in theater, and we projected our graduates marching across a stage, separated by at least 6 feet and in small groups in their caps and gowns. Then they showed the virtual district graduation on the big screen. Wyatt's friend Emory Apodaca gave the commencement address.  He noted that they were the "disaster class"--born right after 9/11, starting kindergarten during the housing bubble recession, and graduating during a pandemic. The phrase and idea were from one of Wyatt's brilliant friends, Ian Gould. Watch for him to be running for office in about 30 years.

The night was SO HOT. We took a long sweaty stroll while we waited for it to get dark.

They limited cars to one per family. Willa and Griff and Eve decided it would be too long and hot, so they stayed home.

And here he is marching!

The day before we had a masked party at Franklin Park with some Briarwood friends and teachers:

Kids we have known since kindergarten:.

I also wanted a mom picture, because these are my friends!

  1. That is very apropos, thinking of Wyatt as the disaster class. Funny. It's a great idea having a graduation at a drive-in theater.

    Go Wyatt! It's easy to feel like graduating from high school isn't a big deal, but it really is. Also how did you end up between those two tiny moms in the briarwood photo?
