Holiday Surprises

Here were the best parts of Independence Day:

1. An early morning bike (for APW) and walk/jog (for me) along Blue River Rd. Here are some surprises:

Some beautiful fungus on a tree that fell over the path. Striped clams living on the dead wood.

Part of Blue River Rd. has been closed for at least 10 years. Nature is taking it back.

But people are taking it back too.


A hibiscus growing randomly with the weeds!


2. Biking with my babes to Village Fest, our city's traditional 4th of July celebration. It started pouring at about 11:15am, and the crowds dispersed quickly. Our small crowd biked home as the rain started to make the hair paint drip down Evie's shivering face.


I think Evie looks a bit like Frida Kahlo. And Griff is trying the Vulcan greeting.

3. Alan got home from rounding early enough to grill us his awesome burgers (which we ate outside) and listen to the Declaration of Independence with us (which we waited for until the noisy rain stopped).

    I want to spend the whole summer with you guys, it turns out. Willa and I were just laughing about Eve's funny outfit choices. And I love the 4th of july in prairie village. I like your nature photos too!

    Beautiful! All of it! How did I miss out on this post? It was such a fun surprise to see your fun doings and what beautiful things you found in nature. Sounds like a good day even with all the rain, which those from our parts of the desert truly appreciate!

    These are truly good parts. I like your observations. I like
    replying without any censor or attempts to control me for doing so.

    I think I already reported our visit to Orem Scera Park and turning
    back the calendar to 1776. We watched "Remembering" at Water Gardens
    in P.G.
