Before We Got Sick

The week was good before and even though we fell into a flu-like oblivion. Monday for FHE, we went to see the musical The Wizard of Oz at the Starlight Theater on a perfect evening. We stopped at the park for some running around for the wiggly ones before the long sit.

Other highlights from the week were:

-Ben Iba came home from his mission and I got to be in the temple as Ethan was endowed on Tammi's birthday.  Glorious, glorious time. The bishop really wanted to be there, but he had come home from work with a fever and felt terrible, so I went to represent us.

-Ben Iba AND Kallen Webster reported their missions in sacrament meeting today.  They have grown in such very good ways. I love seeing the confidence and assurance recently returned missionaries speak with.

-I love precompetitive swim meets. Griff and Eve improved their times from the week before by quite a bit and we got to be there watching with Eleanor and Lucy Steele because their parents were teaching at youth conference (where Wyatt was, despite his malaise), and also Shelley Beatty because her granddaughter Caroline swims with G and E.

-Gymnastics camp got mixed reviews. They rarely wanted to go after lunch, but were usually so very happy when I picked them up. I mostly used the time to take naps because I was feeling so draggy.

-Father's Day is such a great holiday. Our family is very lucky to have such very good fathers to celebrate. Wyatt made Alan a high-level roast chicken dinner, G and E made a poster, and I made a zillion cookies to share with him and other fathers in the ward. I also got to talk to my excellent father who is so good at loving me unconditionally, and in my heart I was grateful for Wayne Wimmer, who we miss and look forward to seeing again "not many days hence". (Reference to this amazing talk from general conference.)

  1. Erg. That getting sick part puts a real monkey wrench in the fun, but you all seem to carry on beautifully even when you're not feeling up to it! Gymnastics camp sounds awesome. I wish I went to gymnastics camp when I was 6. Father's Day is great with so many wonderful fathers in our lives!

What a lovely week! Except the getting sick part. I wish I was at home for all of it. I love Kansas City summers. And you guys, of course.

  3. When Wyatt goes out into the world to spread the gospel and flu germs at youth conference, he can tell people he's being "about his father's business." Like bishop stuff. Also, good-for-the-heart stuff. After all, Alan's a cardiologist, not an epidemiologist. Only certain teens in the world would get that joke, and I'd be pretty amused, too.
