Happy Halloween!

Dear Paige,

You made my day by emailing me yesterday!  Thank you for making me feel a little less lonely on one of my least favorite days.  I KNOW I am supposed to love it, and the kids really do, but I really kind of hate it.  I probably make it worse by dreading it...

Here are the pictures you wanted:

5:45 pm. Home from taking Willa to the school play, Wyatt to a party, and trick or treating at a few stores at the shopping center.  They look about how I felt--scraggly and bad.

6:15p Getting ready for dinner and real trick or treating.  They are so much help!  Alan got home and was in the shower.  We were about 15 minutes late to the party we decided not to go to at this point.
Taking the littles trick or treating was chilly but fun.  Our neighbors loved seeing them.  We went to 5 houses and came home with decent amounts of candy.  They ate some and went to bed.  We gave out the 36 half size sodas I got for treats and locked the door.  Alan and I watched a little bit of Zombieland on TV.  It was goofy.  We didn't finish it.  Willa got home from the play by 9:30 and went to bed soon after.

10:45pm Wyatt home from party and trick or treating (and party again) with friends.  Willa and babies asleep.
8:00am today Willa showing us how the Mexican stop sign should REALLY be done.
Maybe I'll get pictures from Mariah and Eliza.  They and their roommates were going to be the Spice Girls, but last I heard that was falling apart and other plans were forming.

Thanks for the news of your neighborhood.  I like knowing that kind of stuff.  Here is news for the neighbors I visited:

1. Across the street the neighbors who tore down the house and let us watch them build theirs handed out Japanese candy from their exchange students who left last week.
2. The dad was the only one home at the neighbors who are in their back yard.  I don't think he recognized us even though we called him and their dog by name.
3. Miss Margaret invited us in to show her mom (97--I love her!) and beau Dave the costumes.  Griff loved the antique hobby horses he found in her house.
4. Topper and Linda had their usual festival of scary monsters who talk and dance, a table full of toys and treats to collect, and a lot of teasing Alan and me about having these tiny ones and living forever.
5. Janet and her dog Gracie were happy to see us (and also Mo dressed up as a hot dog).  She had a little granddaughter (#4 for her) born this week.  She was named Mariah!

Love, love, love to you!

Heather

  1. Dearest Heather, Your Dad commiserates with your Halloween angst completely. I didn't do those things ever. I did help on the day after to upright outhouses and other mischief. Always left a bad feeling about it Mr. Hugs

  2. You found ways to get only the best out of the day. I wondered for a minute if Wyatt was making a play on words with stop and tall. He's funny. Did Willa have a costume of her own, or did she just share Wyatt's?

  3. Your darling kids make every day special. Halloween too. It was a treat to see their pictures. So many costumes. Eve is such a cute little princess/fairy. And I love Griff's pictures eating candy. The Mexican "alto" sign takes the cake for creativity!

  4. Willa shared Wyatt's costume the next day since she spent Halloween at the school doing hair and makeup for the musical. Strange weekend to do it, huh?
