When we moved to the heartland, we thought it would be such a great way to see our friends from all over the country as they were driving through on cross-country trips. Who knew how infrequent cross-country trips would be? Our first visitors came when we had lived here a week: Colter and Jill. Then we had a huge, long dry spell. Once the Richards came on the same weekend as my sisters and a blizzard, but after that no one.
This summer we feel so lucky that we have already seen two sets of great friends. A couple of weeks ago, the Lymans stopped by on their way to South Carolina. It was so great to see them! We first knew them in Texas, but we've made efforts to see them in Kansas and Colorado as well, and they even visited us in Michigan once. Their Sarah is still a great friend to Mariah and Eliza, and I love all their kids enough that I feel like they are partly mine. Mark and Brenda came to eat some KC barbeque and then served in the temple with us on their one night here. It was heaven!
Saturday I got an email from Ellyn and Greg that they were coming that day. Hooray! They ended up stopping at our house for dinner after they saw Liberty Jail. I visit taught Ellyn in Ann Arbor and learned more from her than probably anyone I've visit taught. And Bailey and Willa were in the same preschool and primary class together when they were little. It was so much fun to see them catch up and find they still like each other. We had dinner and visiting and hugging quickly before they were on their way. What a great evening we had!
We have one more set of friends on the schedule so far this summer--Kevin and Tammy--who we had a great time with in North Carolina. They will arrive tomorrow, and we can't wait. After that, we have an abundance of vacancy. Let us know if you'd like to reserve a room!

ReplyDeleteI just wanted to let you know that our request for the date of our "room reservation" at your "Most Friendly Hotel" is unknown at this time as we are waiting to see when our music with the girls is going to be happening! When you know, reserve it for us then!

ReplyDeleteOh, what fun. I have often thought it would be fun to move away so we could have visitors, but I guess there are a lot of vacancies. We are going to fill one sometime. I just don't know how soon.
ReplyDeleteI just googled and I am only 700 miles from you now in Houston. That is nothing after the drive we just made. Kansas was beautiful passing through, it and you are definitely on my list of places to visit while down here.
