Favorites

I was asking my kids what their favorite Christmas gifts were this year. The small electronics they got went over very well. (Everyone got something apple--Wyatt's was an actual piece of fruit to make up for the fact that his was made by Microsoft.) But everyone really loved what they gave each other too, which was heartening. Mariah LOVED the Big Time Rush CD from Wyatt. Eliza was delighted with the raspberry tea she got from Willa. Willa can't get enough of the cute underwear Mariah gave her, and Wyatt has been having a great time messing with his Lego Darth Vader alarm clock Eliza was kind enough to supply him with. I think siblings really do know best. My sister Kirsta has the BEST taste in jewelry, and she sent me some fabulous silver dangly hoops from Arizona. And my other favorites are the cards and pictures from all the people I love enough to count as siblings. They are the first decorations up and the last to be taken down--joy received in the mail all through December. I have three small walls covered where I can see them every time I walk in the door. Many of them make me wonder if I shouldn't be looking for jobs for my husband in Arizona or Utah. Or Nevada. We watched the end of It's a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve, and really felt the truth that no man is poor who has friends. And I have been blessed with enough to call a luxury. And the iphone is not bad either, just for the record.

  1. Thank you for liking the earrings I got you! I had a really fun time picking them out. (Even though it would have been more fun to do together.)

Warms my heart to hear about your children's gift giving. So dear.

And you said it so well about the Christmas cards. That is what makes December the best every year for me.

  2. Isn't it a trip to be greeted by old friends all month long? Facebook just doesn't come close to matching it. I agree -- you're truly rich. Thanks for letting me be your lifelong friend, too. I look forward to silliness with you more than I even look forward to tiny ballerinas. That's saying something, right?
