A week of hanging out doing whatever we wanted cured whatever stress we had. We had a couple of days where we didn't even put our slippers away.
Christmas Eve was wonderful. We took the kids to renew their passports, played a family basketball game, and got ready to go out on the town. Here are some modeling shots of my kids ready to go see KC Rep's "A Christmas Carol". (It was wonderful. One of the great things about our area is a hearty support of the arts, which brings really talented people to produce beautiful plays, dance, music and visual art.) Then we kept our tradition of eating Christmas Eve dinner at The Cheesecake Factory. Everyone orders the same thing every year except me. We finished early enough to take a leisurely lights tour on the way home, play Scattergories, sing carols and read the Christmas story together.
Christmas day we did the regular things. Breakfast. Presents. Church. Brunch with friends and the missionaries. Naps. Tamales. Miracle on 34th Street.
All is well.

My favorite aspect of Al's personality is how he wears fatherhood. (He excels at husbandhood too, but watching him interact w/ his kids is my fave.)
GREAT poses! Isn't it wonderful that Mo willingly wears bows?! Mariah does "fierce" without even trying. Eliza looks elegant but we know she's silly inside. Go glad you got a grin from that cute boy. Willa is good at stealing scenes, just by being herself. Alan poses like he's been doing it all his life. You have such a terrific family. But how could they be anything else? Look at their amazing mother!
ReplyDeleteHeather, I loved your pics (as usual!) and your Christmas sounded just right. Full of what is fun at Christmas and not hectic! I remember when all the kids were home how good it felt towards evening of Christmas Eve...to know that whatever I had forgotten to do would just have to not be done..and what I hadn't bought...just would stay that way...and how relaxing it felt.

ReplyDeleteAl's mom is a wise woman. Anything not done will "just stay that way" in so many cases. A lot of times, it's just fine for them to stay undone.
You're good on the phone, but you're GREAT in photos. (Best in person -- we need to plan a little face time in 2012.)
