General Conference was definitely the highlight of our weekend. I felt like a technical genius or maybe even Prometheus when I brought the word of the Lord to our new big screen in the basement. We can't get satellite or any other carriers that would give us BYUtv, so I was so pleased that all the cords and connections could be made to plug into a computer with a speedy internet connection. It was a major personal success. My family looked at me like I was a little loony when I threw my arms up and crowed in triumph watching the Mormon Tabernacle Choir getting ready to sing on my very own TV.
It was so worth it! I love listening to prophets speak what the Lord wants us to hear from the comfort of my own home. It is a huge blessing. The whole thing was wonderful, but the Saturday morning session was my favorite. I loved President Holland's talk of gratitude. It was so heartfelt and touching that he thanked people in the church and his parents for specific sacrifices. And D. Todd Christofferson's talk about a consecrated life is one worth pondering and thinking about carefully. His talks often spur me to action. And best of all may have been Dieter Uchtdorf's talk about slowing down in times of turmoil to focus on the fundamental things we need for spiritual survival. It is a great reminder that slowing down to really ponder and pray and read and take time for our family, friends and ourselves are essential.
We also had a really wonderful dinner last night. We invited Mac and Lindsey with their adorable three year old Noah to dinner along with Angie and Marsh and their angelically sweet baby Marshall. It was such an entertaining crowd! Mac is like a mix between my nephew Marc and my friend Laura T's husband Jeff--a soft-spoken, biking, golfing outdoorsman who is exceedingly likable. Lindsey is hilarious and one of the cutest pregnant girls I know. She told us time flies when you're fat--and she is so not. Angie is smart and fun to have around and was so generous in letting us pass around her sweet son. Marsh would fit into any crowd. My girls have decided he is another version of Captain Awesome. He is great at talking to people and bringing me produce from his beautiful garden and making an amazing blueberry cobbler and cleaning up my kitchen. (I bet you want to have him come to your house too.) And then we got to be entertained by a beautiful, smiling, golden-curled boy and a giggling sweet one year old as they wrestled and rolled around on our carpet together. If you can't have actual family around for Sunday dinner, inviting people you really like from your ward family is surely a delightful and sweet alternative.

Heather. thank you again for a peek into your life.....I too loved listening/watching conference. We had a basketball tourn of Jord's in the Salt Lake area so on our way there we stopped at a Walmart and Wayne bought me a pocket Walkman radio and I had the headphones on my head walking in (the Tabernacle Choir was singing the opening song...and a man walking in with us started singing along with it...I loved it! I watched the game and listened and loved both! We were back to the condo for the afternoon session (watched that) then we left before 6:00 a.m. Sunday morn for Henderson and listened to the morning session....and I found it on tv here at our place...another "watch." I feel "full with a warmth" after conference and begin looking foreward to the next one! I am soooooo impressed that you COULD hook your computer up to your tv...but not surprised.
ReplyDeleteWilla's venture into making "Crispy Kremes" brought back my own venture into trying..and finding them definitely lacking in deliciosity...when I shared it with a friend she told me that she NEVER deep fried her donuts...that she baked them! I planned on trying that recipe but never did.
Your learning about Kansas sounded like fun to me also...we just have to tolerate the "less than enthusiasm in our associates! xo momw
Thanks for your thoughts on conference. We loved it too. In fact, Sunday was by far our best conference Sunday as a family ever! The night before, we went to dinner with Keith’s best friend Jere and his wife Krista and they told us that they did a quiz on each talk during conference once and their kids listened better than ever. So we tried it, and it was miraculous! Not one of us slept for one wink the whole two sessions, we had meaningful discussions along with our question asking/answering, and everyone was motivated to really listen and learn. I’m sure you could come up with your own program if you wanted to try it, but if you want any particulars, let me know! We plan to do it every time!

LOVED LOVED LOVED Conference. We watched every session (and Dad didn't even snooze much.) Isn't it amazing that you can get that much instruction and that many assignments and walk away feeling it is VERY do-able? SO ENCOURAGING!
