Three of them:

1. My husband invited me to join him in Denver when he had a conference there last month. I left my kids with a dear friend (thanks again, Leslie!) and flew off to join him. It feels luxurious to be able to read a couple of books just for fun, stay in a fancy hotel downtown, eat out several memorable meals in a row, contemplate getting a pedicure or a massage (nix on both), and spend time alone with my true love in a city where I have no responsibilities. Plus all that, the management of the hotel actually delivered complimentary chocolate covered strawberries and champagne to our room. They were trying to apologize for the heart attack they gave me when they inadvertently handed me the key to some strange woman's room when I was looking for my husband.

2. My birthday this year was amazing. We left the kids with (different) generous friends (Heidi! Melissa! Lisa! You rock!) and went to Greensboro, North Carolina. We stayed in an historic bed and breakfast (owned by some Wimmers we haven't figured out a connection with) and then went shopping at the Apple store and the amazing Furnitureland South. Then we flew home. It was dreamy, and my birthday presents are going to be fabulous when they get here.
3. My brother came to visit, which is extraordinary because it's only the second time he's done it in the last 20 years. The last time was a couple of years ago. I think maybe he is turning over a new leaf (in addition to now having a job that occasionally brings him to KC), and I'm pleased. We took him home and made him be the audience for Wyatt's annual piano recital, and then we walked to a fun new burger place in our neighborhood where he treated most of us to dinner. After Alan got home from a late-suprise day on call he and I took Joel on the scenic route to his hotel downtown. It was great to see him.

How lovely! The hotel looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHow neat for you to be able to spend time with Joel. I'd gladly pay for that opportunity.
ReplyDeleteTruly extraordinary days. You have now had double the number of visits from Joel that I have had since getting married. Maybe I'll move to a city that he frequents.
ReplyDeleteLoved the recital. And what a beautiful hotel!
I always love the reports of your fun travels.
ReplyDeleteJoel said he had a great time at your house. Showed us the recital on his c-phone. And mentioned a fun shopping experience with the girlies.
I also loved to see you introduce your son. You are one cute chick.
What a great time is sounds like you had! Great job, Wyatt!
