When I came home from the church on Wednesday, Willa was so excited because for the school fundraiser she earned one of the coolest prizes--a pink Nike duffel bag. None of my other kids has ever won a prize for fundraising. Maybe it has something to do with their mother's terrible attitude about asking friends for money, or maybe it is just because they aren't Willa. Willa asked if she could just ask a few people on our street for pledges for the Bulldog Jog, so I just sighed and told her she could. She scootered to everyone on the street, and because she is so cute and our neighbors are so generous, she came home with about $200 in her envelope. I did nothing but sit back and be amazed.
One of these generous neighbors that Willa visits regularly has given Willa free access to her super-cool old tree house. It is built about 12 feet off the ground in a stand of pin oaks that hides it from view but provides a great lookout to the neighborhood. It has a trap door entrance, three walls and an open side with a rail blocking access to a rotting front porch where kids used to climb up with a rope. Willa and her friend Caroline have already hauled up a cute tiny round table and white iron chairs, a broom for keeping it clean, and a waterproof box containing a tea set, stickers, stationary, and whatever else a 7 year old girl might need for her tree house. It makes her wake up happy, which is something we really needed.

That Willa. It's hard to believe she's only 7 sometimes with such a special little soul. I think I would've loved a tree house just like the one she's discovered. I'd say that she's settled in :)
