Yesterday we spent 5 frustrating hours trying to serve in the temple. We try to go once month, and this was our chance for March. (The temple was closed for half of the month.) I arranged to have a friend watch the kids and made dinner for us to eat on the way and then went to pick Alan up from clinic. I knew I might have to wait, so I sat out in the parking lot reading, calling my sister and waving to a friend from the ward who had been Alan's clinic patient. When my bottom started to fall asleep I looked at my watch and realized I had been there for 2 hours. The clinic just wouldn't end! We called the temple and told them we wouldn't make it for our session appointment and asked if there was anything else (shorter) we could do. They said to come in and do sealings, so we drove the hour there. When we got there we found out the next set of sealings wouldn't start until very late, so we turned around and came back to our kids. We drove up next to the van, which was still in the clinic parking lot, and I couldn't find my keys. ANYWHERE. I was certain that I must have left them in the bathroom at the temple. We left the van there and came home. Luckily, when we got home to a well-lit kitchen counter, we found the keys, so we went back and got the van.
At least I got to hang out with my husband for a couple of hours and speak to him without being interrupted, right? Honestly, though, it wasn't our favorite date. My other consolation is that Michelle called me as I was on the way home and assured me that this totally counts as a temple trip.

Oh man...I'm so sorry...but I am glad that I got a phone call out of it. How did your keys to your van get left at home? Didn't you drive your van to the clinic?
ReplyDeleteThe keys were in my temple bag, but there is so much stuff in there that I didn't see them after searching through it twice.
ReplyDeleteColter and I have been much better lately about going to the temple (we've been doing monthly instead of quarterly). But we had to do sealings one time because we were late. Another time we just barely made it in time. When I went to CA, I went with my sisters. But again we were late (I'm beginning to wonder if I'm the problem!) and did initiatories. But that was actually fantastic. At any rate, I guess going to temple usually isn't easy. You certainly made a great effort!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I've noticed that when I'm on our laptop, I get signed in as Colter. When I'm on our desktop, I get signed in as myself. Now you'll know which computer I'm writing from! :) I can't remember my password so I don't even bother trying to change it!

Sometimes life is just so frustrating the only thing you can do is laugh, huh?
ReplyDeleteM'Li's kids "watched" conference with us this AM. After lunch Dad took Hayden and Hana up in his "cherry picker". (Chieko didn't want to...) They had a BLAST. I thought of Wyatt, Willa, and Will, who would have LOVED joining them.
It's beautiful today after lots of snow Tue, Wed and Thur. (which wasn't serious since it didn't stick.) Anyway, it's so much fun to have sun again.
Joel's family and the Hoki's are coming to supper at 5pm. COME! We're having hot dogs and for dessert strawberry short cake with cream on top.
Happy conference! Hugs.....
