Alan is away for a very long weekend. As I've missed him, I realized that part of what I am missing is the sense of well-being I have when I am with him. He makes my life better just by being himself and being near me. Although there is no real substitute for being with your true love, I've been trying to do things and think things that give me a sense of peace and happiness. Here is my short list:
-read scriptures
-play hymns on the piano
-repeat my mantra (I'm overcoming mantra angst. Ask mom.)
-cuddle my kids
-keep my feet warm (much harder without my husband here.)
I would, of course, love it if prayer were the first thing to come to mind. I need to work on that one. I also read an article in BYU magazine about the atonement of Christ that really brought into sharp focus the need to stay centered on the "very root of Christian doctrine". That, of course, is the best sense of peace. I want to know what you do to maintain a sense of well-being. I think it is something we should practice and be able to call upon when we need it.

I say Bill's name to myself over and over and that helps a lot. That's how I get to sleep when he's out of town. I snuggle with my kids, drink pine tea (when I remember to get the pine needles) and read good books in bed. Also, when I was pregnant and working as a rape crisis advocate I would sometimes call Mom and have her talk a dream to me if I was having a hard time being comforted.
